North Cumbria Scriptwriters: Carol Donockley

History

In 1999, North Cumbria Playwrights was formed as a result of an initiative by Northern Playwrights in Newcastle. Playwrights Kitty Fitzgerald and Peter Mortimer held a series of workshops in Cumbria and Northern Playwrights provided a grant which enabled the group to get started. In 2006 the name was changed to North Cumbria Scriptwriters .

Works from our members were commissioned for the Millennium celebrations and got the group off to a flying start. Since then, individual members have had scripts used by local groups, contracted for TV, developed by North West Playwrights, and accepted for production by Theatre by the Lake. As a group, we planned and carried out our Write Angles project in 2008 and the five-minute plays broadcast during Christmas week each year from 2009 to 2014 by BBC Radio Cumbria.
